Marathon – Comrades Qualifier 2019

This year’s Mall of the North Marathon was once again proof of the popularity of the event with well over 2 000 athletes competing in the 42.2km, 21.1km and 10km categories.  This excludes the hundreds of runners who competed in the 5km Fun Run. A total of 560 athletes finished the 42.2km compared to 380 last year (47% growth).  In the 21.2km a total of 680 (500 – 36% growth) athletes completed the race while 800 (530 – 51% growth) crossed the finish line in the 10km.  The Marathon was won by Lutendo Maphoto in a time of 2:26.22. Festive Season Activities – Winter Wonderland Photobooth, SPCA Gift Wrapping Service, Interactive Santa, Summer Sensation Kids Activities

Shoppers at Mall of the North had a variety of entertainment options to choose from during the festive season.  Families took their annual Christmas photo at our Winter Wonderland photobooth while kids could have a unique interactive conversation with Santa and join in the free Summer Sensation kids’ activity fun.  The local SPCA gift wrapping service also made Christmas shopping a bit more convenient by offering a gift-wrapping service.

Community Christmas Parade

The festive season was officially launched with an explosive community Christmas parade on Saturday 7 December.  Dancers from local dance schools spread festive cheer throughout the mall when they danced in the festive season.  The mall came to a standstill when the dancers took centre stage in their numbers, entertaining shoppers. Black Friday

Mall of the North had a very successful Black Friday.  Many stores opted to start their Black Friday specials earlier and extend some specials for the entire weekend this year which meant less of a rush on Black Friday itself. While our footcount for Friday is a little lower in comparison to 2018, the overall numbers for the 2019 Black Friday weekend are up, along with an increase in the number of shoppers for the entire month of November. The Long Table Picnic with Roan Ash

The “If I ever saw heaven” hit-maker, Roan Ash, made our first “The Long Table Picnic” a worthwhile event on Sat 7 September at the overflow parking area.  Guests had the opportunity to buy tickets online and we sold a total of 490 tickets.  A seat at The Long Table included a welcoming drink, surprise gift and limited snacks sponsored by Panarottis and Ocean Basket.  Various food and drink stalls were set-up by tenants and these offered visitors a variety of tasty options to choose from.  A local indie-rock band, 15OH5, set the tone for the night with their opening…

Paint & Sip – 9 August 2019

Champagne flutes, Mediterranean sounds, paint and palettes sat side by side as generous Picasso-like strokes were applied to canvas board by an all-female audience who participated in our second Paint & Sip event on Women’s Day.  In-between sipping on the bubbly, guests were treated to a breakfast snack courtesy of Ocean Basket.  Miladys and Foschini also each sponsored beautiful shopping bags and cosmetics.  There was a total of 35 budding artists who participated. This was the second Paint & Sip session and we will most definitely host it again soon!

Turkish Festival

Food Fundi with a sense of adventure and love for first-call taste experience could delight in an array of Middle-Eastern delicacies during the Turkish Food Festival held at Mall of the North (MOTN) overflow parking lot from Friday until Sunday. The highlight of the festival was on Saturday when an estimated 3500 people visited the stalls to purchase mouth-watering dishes, various designs and clothes. Paint & Sip – 20 March 2019

Inspired and budding artists were setting Mall of the North on fire with brush strokes applied to board, wine in hand and French café music playing in the background at the Paint & Sip event that took place at Cappuccinos on Wednesday 20 March 2019. Makhulu 5 is back, are you in?

Mall of the North is the place to be on 16 February. Roughly translated Makhulu means ‘bigger’ and what is bigger than the annual Makhulu 5 Mountain Bike Race!
