With shorter days and long chilly nights, you’re definitely not alone in longing for the return of summer.  If you have slight case of the winter blues then Mall of the North is ready to make you smile because we’re inviting you to indulge the senses at our Just Imagine Arts and Photo Fair from 20 to 22 July.

There are plenty of good reasons to celebrate all things creative and visually beautiful. And the best part is you don’t have to consider yourself an artist to find joy in being creative. As the famous author Neil Gaiman wrote, “Make your art.  Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make good art.”

For thousands of years people have created art, whether through paint, sculpture, pottery or photography to give expression to our passions and emotions far better than words ever could, making it the true international language. Kids are encouraged to be creative through play because it aids in their early development but there’s a growing movement that recognises just how important artistic expression is for adults as well.

Research suggests that engaging in creative tasks as adults is a great way to relieve stress and can even increase long-term memory. Sadly many of us shy away from the arts because of the mistaken belief that one needs to be a ‘creative type’ or be naturally skilled in order to participate. Another reason our child-like creativity wanes over time is simply down to lack of practise and careers that prize logic, reason and problem-solving over playful curiosity and imagination.

At its best, doing something fun and creative is a wonderful way to step outside the confines of being an adult, if only for a moment, and remember what it was like to be a younger version of yourself. And if you have no idea where to start then our Arts and Photo Fair is just for you! The cherry on top is the chance to win an exquisite Turkish carpet to the value of R3,200 courtesy of Evoque Interiors if you treat yourself at Foto First, PNA or Bargain Books during our fair.

See you there!
