We’ve all made a resolution or three in the past that turned out… or rather didn’t turn out at all.
Not this year! Instead of making an impossible to-do list for 2020, why not do something a little different, learn something new, and have a little me time in the process?
Having a hobby not only gives us something to do during our leisure time, it’s also a fantastic way to learn a new skill and meet people with similar interests to our own. Hobbies are also a great way to relieve stress by providing a creative outlet that’s otherwise hard to find during those stressful working hours.
Research also shows that children and teenagers who participate in after school activities enjoy much better social and academic outcomes over those who don’t. This is why Mall of the North are giving youngsters the chance to explore variety of activities on offer from clubs, associations and other activity centres in our annual Club Day on 18 to 19 January at the Edgars and Game court from 10am to 5pm.
So hobbies are good for us, no matter how old or young we are. But with so much to do and so little time how do we find the right fit?
What did you love doing as a child? Fond memories of riding a bike or helping gran in the kitchen are great clues about what you were passionate about and could pick up again as a hobby today.
Start by carving out just half an hour a day or every second to day to explore a potential interest. If there’s a way to start small, like cycling around the block before investing in new bike or buying a starter craft kit instead of a ton of supplies, then baby steps are best in case you decide that trendy hobby isn’t for you after all.
Hunt for inspiration
If something from your past doesn’t immediately jump out at you, browse Mall of the North’s fabulous line-up of sports, outdoor, books, and stationery stores and see what captures your attention. Maybe you’re drawn to those sleek running shoes, cookbooks, or scrapbooking goodies. Maybe there’s something about the camping equipment that makes you want to head outdoors for a hike.
