Why do I need to provide ID?

We want to make buying gift cards as convenient as possible, but we also have to follow the law. In this case it’s the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 36 of 2001 (FICA).

When selling gift cards, all shopping centres, including Mall of the North, are required to ask for and make a copy of a customer’s valid ID.

The reason: Your gift card, which can be used at any Mall of the North store, actually functions like a bank card. Pretty cool right?

But because bank cards are regulated, regardless of the amount on the card, we need to ask for ID.
